Lakshwadweep

Location :: Lying 200-300 km off the coast of Kerala (southern most state), Lakshadweep, the smallest union territory of India comprise of 12 coral atolls, 3 coral reefs, 5 banks and many islets.
Climate condition : Lakshadweep has warm and tropical humid climate, and temperature ranges from 25º C to 35º C, which dwindles a bit in winter and make the weather cooler.
Best time to visit : The islands are open throughout the year, but the best time to visit the island is between September and may, as the Lakshadweep administration organises package tour for tourists, which is the only way to explore the island, because individual tourists are not allowed.

Thing to do
As the heavy tourism is restricted in the islands, the island somewhat still maintains its virginity, and have tremendous scope for nature lovers, especially Eco tourists looking for a pack of water excursion. Adventurous sports like white water rafting, backwater cruise and scuba diving are some of the best Eco recreation which this island is pleased to offers to tourists.

Places of Interests
Bangaram : Still inhabited, Bangaram is open for international tourists, and is one of the most beautiful island of the world. Surrounded by shallow lagoon which is enclosed by coral reef, the scenic beauty of island enthralls tourists.
Kavaratti :Headquarter of the union territory of Lakshadweep, Kavaratti is another pleasant place ideal for water sports. Marine aquarium here provides adventure enthusiasts an amazing opportunity to see the aquatic world.
Kalpeni : Enclosed by the huge shallow lagoon, this island has water sport crafts which are available on hire for tourists willing to sail into the gorgeous water world.
Kadmat : The silver coloured long sandy beaches has abundant of water sports opportunity to offer to tourists. Even there is one diving school cum centre at this island where one can have best possible water entertainment.
Minicoy : It is the second largest island of Lakshadweep. The inhabitant of this island are expert seamen. Tourists get finer opportunity to view the primitive village structure set in the beautiful island.
Agatti : Compared to other islands of Lakshadweep, Agatti is warmer. Coral growth is higher here, and fishes of different colour are found plenteously. As the island is stopover for planes going to Bangaram, it has few well managed resort, where tourists can avail opportunity to enjoy water sport facilities.

Eco attraction/Eco excursion
Among the total 10 inhabited islands (the total number of islands in Lakshadweep are 36), only four of them are open for tourists. The restriction of heavy footfalls of tourists in Lakshadweep islands might be one reason that it still preserves the beauty of its natural assets as it was years ago.

Surrounded by many of the lagoons that is known for their natural beauty, isles of Lakshadweep are paradise for Eco tourists, especially for those who wish to satiate their adventurous fascination through trying some water sports. The abundance of sea sports activities along with tranquil and beautiful islands give Eco travellers a perfect vacation.

As the islands are not for individual tourists, various tour package organised for domestic and international tourists enable them to enjoy a vacation full of difference, natural beauty and several water activities like swimming, boating, boat racing, water craft, sun bathing and beach volley ball. But the best attraction among all activities, not to be missed by nature lovers, is definitely the scuba diving course conducted by trained dive masters. The 8 day scuba diving course at Kadmat island is full of wonder as it provides tourists a perfect rendezvous with the uncorrupted and pure state and wonder of water world.

Reaching there
By Air : The only airport of Lakshadweep is at Agatti island. Indian airlines has flights for Agatti from Kochi and Goa. Both Goa and Kochi are well connected to other airports like Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi.

By Sea : As the islands are not open for individual tourists, SPORTS (Society for Promotion Of Recreation Tourism and Sport) is the only official agency conducting packages for tourists. Ship cruises are available as par the packages designed for the tourists.
